Battleship Bismarck Photos
Training
Photos of the Bismarck during her training period.
A fine view of the Bismarck from starboard. Notice that censors have removed the forward and the foretop range finders and their bedspring radar mattresses. This photo was taken in the fall of 1940 before the A turret range finder hoods were removed.
This photo was taken from the Prinz Eugen during training exercises in the Baltic, April 1941.
The Bismarck is refueled from the Prinz Eugen during exercises in the Baltic. The Germans performed their refueling operation with the refueling ship towing the ship being refueled whereas the US refueling method was to have the ships steam slowly side by side. In practice the US method proved to be the superior method of executing this maneuver.
